“We are very fortunate as a district,” Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy said on April 15 regarding nominations for three of the Gasconade County R-2 School District’s teachers who received Teacher of the Year awards.

Sherry Byram was one of seven finalists for the Ag Teacher of the Year award and received $500 for being named a finalist. Even though she did not receive the award, she has thanked everyone for the nomination.

“Congratulations to three of our teachers in the district this year for being nominated for MSTA South Central Teacher of the Year,” Hardy said. “Ashley Powell and Randee Schatz-Morris at Gerald Elementary were chosen as representatives for that award. Tyler Ahring was chosen as the high school Teacher of the Year from MSTA. Really excited that we had three teacher nominations this year. That says a lot about our district and the care they provide for students. We are really excited about that.”

Although they weren’t present, the board also recognized April Students of the Month for their good deeds, including kindergartner Luella Marquart; first grader Hailey Crawford; second grader Hazel Schneider; third grader Burke Heidbrink; fourth grader Frank Clancy; and fifth grader Adalynn Oldfather.

The Owensville Elementary School Staff of the Month was Michelle Gerlemann and Emily Hagene.

Owensville High School Students of the Month were freshman Cody Lenauer; sophomore Rachel Koepke; junior Lauren Kandlbinder; and senior Gracie Engelbrecht.

Owensville High School Staff of the Month was Ryan Okenfuss.

Directors added a four-hour cook float position in the district.
