Swept the night before in Westphalia against Fatima, Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball team looked to get back on the winning track last Thursday night on the road in St. James against the host Lady Tigers.

Needing just three sets to win the match by scores of 25-11, 25-7 and 25-9, Owensville got a match-high 10 kills from Mya Vandegriffe to go along with four kills each from Cameron Nowack and Addi Menz.

Lilly Sample and Callie Koelling each also added three kills.

Adding to her match-high 10 aces, Caldwell led both teams with 11 assists.

Last Wednesday night in Westphalia, Courtney Hinson’s Dutchgirl freshman volleyball team fell to the host Lady Comets in two sets 25-23 and 25-11.

Picking up their freshman counterparts, Emily McKinney’s JV Dutchgirls claimed their match in two sets over Fatima by scores of 25-14 and 25-23.

Going up against an always tough Lady Comet squad, Ridenhour’s varsity Dutchgirls fell to Fatima in three sets 25-16, 25-16 and 25-20.

Menz led the Dutchgirls with five kills against Fatima followed closely by Vandegriffe with four.

During the Dig for Life Tournament nearly two weeks ago in Cape Girardeau, Owensville won matches over Risco and Hazelwood West while posting splits with Scott City and Oak Ridge.

In their final match of the weekend, they fell to Viburnum in three sets by scores of 25-12, 19-25 and 25-18.

Joleen Braun led OHS with seven kills against the Lady Blue Jays while Adams, Julius and Ruvia Nowack each had an ace.

Vandegriffe posted two blocks to go along with one apiece from Rachel Koepke and Lewis.

After hosting St. Clair last night (Tuesday) and traveling to Pacific tomorrow (Thursday) for Four Rivers Conference (FRC) volleyball, Owensville will be buried in tournament action over the coming week.

Playing Saturday in the Megan Gross Invitational, Owensville will then make the short trip north on Highway 19 starting next Tuesday for the Hermann Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

OHS’ freshman and JV squads will also see tournament action Saturday in Union.
