Dororthy “Dot” M. Smith, 88, passed away March 23, 2024, at the Capital Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 14, 1935, a daughter to the late Thomas Henry and Odessa Elizabeth (Howard) Woemmel in Owensville.

She was united in marriage to Dwight “Moody” L. Smith, Feb. 23, 1952. He preceded her in death Oct. 16, 2007.

Dorothy was a life-long area resident and member of the Crossroads Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was very active and served as the song leader for 50 years.

She was employed at the S&S Packing Company in Bland for 22 years.

Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and canning what she gathered from the garden, and singing. She was an amazing cook and was known for her fried chicken. Dorothy was kind, giving, and was very positive. She always seemed to be laughing as she enjoyed life to the fullest. She read her bible daily, loved her church and her faith in God was strong. Above all, her greatest times were spent with her family and friends and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — whom she adored. She will be missed tremendously by her by her family, friends, church family and anyone who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Odessa; husband, Dwight; great-grandson Hayden Wolfe; and siblings Norma Enke, Raymond Woemmel and Sharon Miles.

Dorothy is survived by children, Tom Smith and wife Jackie, Ralph Smith and wife Patsy all of Bland, Carol Scego and husband Tommy of Owensville, Debbie Dozier and husband Craig of Bland, Steve Smith and wife Linda of Vienna, Mark Smith and wife Beverly of Belle, and James Smith and significant other Peggy; and 38 grand and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephew, extended family members and friends.

Visitation for Dorothy will be Thursday, March 28, at the Crossroads Baptist Church from 10–11 a.m. with funeral services following at 11 a.m. with Danny Jarvis officiating. Interment will be in the Campbell Cemetery.
