Bertha “Bertie” Alice Hinson, 84, of Owensville, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, May 28, 2024, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.
She was born March 11, 1940, to Harry and Alma (Flanagin) Carey in Sullivan.
She was united in marriage to Jerry Hinson,
Feb. 5, 1965.
Bertie attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Sullivan High School. Her life was filled with love and joy for others. Her children and grandchildren were her life. She was very well known in the community having raised children for 30 years at her in-home daycare.
She loved country music and her husband’s band, “The Swinging Diamonds.” She loved to dance, especially the waltz and polka. She enjoyed birds of any kind but especially bluebirds and redbirds.
She was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Alma; husband, Jerry; son, Dale Sellers; and brother, Gene Carey.
She is survived by daughters, Tammy Michels of Wilmington, N.C. and Dana Goodman of Owensville; siblings, Phillip Carey of Cuba and Greg Carey of Owensville; grandchildren, Trent Sellers, Ryan Sellers, Megan Branson and Andrea Hane all of Owensville, Tanner Goodman of Lake of the Ozarks, Austin, Alexis and Arissa Michels all of Raleigh, N.C.; and by 10 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held Friday, May 31, at Grace City Church in Owensville with Pastor Corey Nicks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to go towards a memorial of their choosing.
