OWENSVILLE — During a special tax rate hearing on Monday night, the Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education voted 6-0 to remain at $3.85 per $100 of assessed valuation.

Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy said on Tuesday that the rate is stable.

“The tax rate hearing which was held Aug. 26 resulted in no change to the current tax rate, which was set by the voters,” she said. “The debt service levy remains at 67 cents and the operational levy is at $3.18 for a total of $3.85.”

The $3.85 assessment rate is set per $100 of assessed valuation.

During the 2023 fiscal year, the district’s assessment on commercial properties was $28,905,528 but it decreased by 2.1 percent to $28,290,891 as of July 31.

Residential assessments grew from the $109,387,292 figure in fiscal year 2023 to $111,621,597 in July 2024 — a 2 percent increase.

Agricultural property in 2023 was assessed at $7,902,333 in fiscal year 2023, and increased by 1.2 percent to $7,998,164 as of July 2024.

In 2023, personal property was assessed at $57,123,219, but dropped 4.2 percent to $54,704,857 in July 2024.

The district estimates to receive $6,443,173.19 into it’s incidental account through the $3.18 operating levy and $1,357,523.91 into its debt service account from the levy of 67 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Neither the teacher’s fund or capital projects account is funded by a tax levy.

No one commented during the hearing. The district’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

Newly elected board members Keith Glaser and Kari Nolting were recognized for completing 18.5 hours of legally required training for certification as a school district director.
