Richard Lee Johnson, 81, of Gerald, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born June 5, 1943, to Horace and Lillian (Harris) Johnson in East St. Louis, Ill.

He was united in marriage to Sue Clemons, Nov. 6, 1965, in Rosemont, Ill.

Richard’s journey of service began in his youth when he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. His service continued with a distinguished 20-year tenure in the Army Reserves. Richard also served his local community and was able to see the completion of the Veterans Memorial in Gerald. For 31 years, he was a truck driver for Beaufort Transfer Company. For the past two decades, Richard operated his own multi-service delivery company, Quick Transit. His business was a testament to his industrious spirit and commitment to providing quality service.

Richard was a man who loved people and never met a stranger. His infectious friendliness and caring nature made him a beloved figure in his community. He cherished his family above all else and found immense joy in spending time with them. His lifelong friends were treasured, and he valued every conversation, old and new.

He was preceded in death by parents, Horace and Lillian; and brothers, Harold and Tommy Johnson.

Richard is survived by wife, Sue of the home; children, Amy Johnson of St. Charles, Andrew Johnson, and Adam Johnson and wife Brooke all of Owensville; sister, Patricia Sands of Breese, Ill.; and grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, Parker, and Ross Johnson.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 24, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home Chapel, Owensville, with Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. He was buried with full military honors at Boeuff Presbyterian Cemetery in Gerald.
