Weather and field conditions permitting

Throughout the spring, the five words above have been uttered more times than we care to count.

With all of the recent rain, Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) district tournament hosts have been scrambling trying to figure out where and when to play games that have been postponed due to wet field conditions and inclement weather.

Steven Kemp’s Owensville Dutchmen saw their district semifinal contest from Monday night against Salem postponed to today (Wednesday) due to forecasted inclement weather.

OHS will face the Tigers at 5 p.m., today and a win would put them in the district championship game immediately following their contest with Salem against the winner of the other semifinal between Sullivan and St. Clair.

Wayland McKague’s Hermann Bearcats have also been impacted by Mother Nature’s latest dousing of rain.

Originally scheduled to face Elsberry’s Indians last night (Tuesday) for the MSHSAA Class 3, District 6 championship at Montgomery County High School, that game was postponed and moved to today (Wednesday) with a 6 p.m., first pitch at Mexico High School.

Vienna’s Eagles were also affected by Mother Nature Monday night.

They made it through an inning of their MSHSAA Class 2, District 9 semifinal game against Crocker with a 2-0 lead before heavy rains forced that contest to be suspended.

It resumed last night (Tuesday) at Versailles High School’s all turf field due to wet and unplayable field conditions in Iberia.

Linn’s Wildcats have had their tournament moved back a day due to the rain.

Defeating New Haven 8-0 Friday to open the tournament, Linn’s originally scheduled MSHSAA Class 2, District 8 semifinal with Tipton was postponed from Monday to last night (Tuesday) against Tipton’s Cardinals at Russellville High School.

With rain in the forecast for yesterday, hopefully there are enough turf fields available throughout the area to finish these district tournaments by the end of the week.
