Charles Lewis Barnhart, 84, Meta, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 15, 1940, to the late Arlie and Vada (Bilyeu) Barnhart on his family farm on the outskirts of Meta.

He was united in marriage to Ruby Sauer July 13, 1963, in Lohman.

Charles was a farmer and logger.  At age 16, he began working in the timber business by cutting stave bolts and later co-owned and operated Barnhart Logging from 1988 until ill health forced his retirement in 2022.

Charles was preceded in death by parents, Arlie and Vada; sister, Clarice Barnhart; and brothers-in-law, Truman and Leroy Sauer. 

He is survived by loving wife, Ruby; daughter, Amy Forbis and husband Kevin of Russellville; son, Brian Barnhart of Meta; and sisters-in-law, Arlene Sauer and Alice Sauer, both of Russellville.

A Graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 17, at Stokes Cemetery near Van Cleve. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stokes Cemetery Fund.
