Citizens Bank was chartered on May 4, 1934 and celebrated its 90th anniversary with free food on Friday at the Gerald branch.
Citizens Bank of New Haven began as merger between the Bank of New Haven and Farmer’s Savings Bank during the Great Depression. The bank officially changed its name to Citizens Bank in 1995.
A loan production office was opened in Gerald in December 1985 with Russel Kansteiner running the operation. In 1992, the Gerald location went from a loan production office to a full-service facility located at Second and Main streets. The bank moved to its current location on W. Springfield Rd. in 2002.
The Gerald branch currently has seven employees and is managed by Glenda Vogt.
In the meantime, Citizens Bank also expanded to Pacific in 1996 and to Washington in 2001.
At this time, the bank has around 70 employees and a current asset size of $320,000,000.
