Illinois man, area motorists injured in recent crashes

OWENSVILLE — A Beardstown, Ill., motorcyclist received serious injuries May 30 when he attempted to brake on Fowler Road approaching U.S. 50 and began to skid.

Austin C. Becker, 23, was transported by Gerald Area Ambulance District personnel for treatment at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City following the incident reported to the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Becker was traveling south on Fowler Road driving a 2006 Harley Davidson Custom Softail Classic when the crash occurred 150 feet north of U.S. 50. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the report by Trooper Drew O’Brien.

The motorcycle began to skid, then overturned, ejecting Becker.

A Hermann man received serious injuries as a passenger in vehicle which was struck at 7:18 a.m. Monday on Highway 100 at Route V in Franklin County.

Tyler B. Hunt, 30, was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Meramec Ambulance, according to the MSHP report.

He was a passenger in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 which was pulling a trailer and being driven east on 100 by Tracy L. Ramsey, 28, of Washington.

Ashley R. Vanstine, 36, Union, was the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban traveling south on Route T and attempting to cross 100 onto Route V. She failed to yield to eastbound traffic and pulled out into the intersection in front of Ramsey’s vehicle. He was unable to stop in time and the front of his vehicle struck the right rear passenger door and fender.

Both vehicles traveled off the right side of the road.

Vastine had minor injuries and was transported by Meramec Ambulance to Mercy St. Louis for treatment. Two juveniles, a 2-year-old female and a 2-year-old male, were transported by Meramec Ambulance to Mercy St. Louis with moderate injuries.

The two children and Ramsey were wearing seat belts. Vastine and Hunt were not wearing seat belts, according to the report by Cpl. M.A. White. Patriot Towing removed both vehicles.

On Saturday in Gasconade County, a 10:40 a.m. wreck was reported on Highway 100 601 feet west of Boy Scout Road outside Hermann. According to Cpl. Coby Holzschuh’s report, Lynnel D. Ernst, 55, Hermann, was driving a 2004 Honda Civic west on 100 when he crossed the centerline and struck a westbound trailer being pulled by a 2017 Ford F-350 driven by Terry R. Meyer, 57, of New Haven.

Following the impact with the towed trailer, Ernst’s car went off the left side of the highway and came to a stop. Holzschuh was assisted by Trooper Jeffrey Gertson.

Ernst had minor injuries and was transported for treatment by Hermann ambulance to Hermann Area District Hospital. Harvey’s Towing removed Ernst’s vehicle. Meyer drove the truck away from the scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

A Hermann man, Robert L. Williamson, 41, received moderate injuries in a 3:26 p.m. crash May 24 in Montgomery County as he was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado west on the I-70 on ramp at the 175 mile marker which is Highway 19. According to the MSHP report. Williamson drove off the right side of the road, over-corrected, returned to the road, ran off the left side and then overturned.

He was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported by Montgomery County Ambulance District personnel to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

On May 23 on U.S. 50 in Osage County, an Owensville woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash eight-tenths of a mile east of Route N.

According to the MSHP report by Trooper Brian Lange, Michelle R. Lowder, 49, was westbound driving a 2019 Cadillac Escalade. An eastbound 2014 Dodge Avenger driven by Ashton M. Johnson, 19, of Mt. Sterling, crossed the centerline and struck Lowder’s vehicle. Lowder traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Lowder was transported by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries to Capital Region in Jefferson City. Both vehicles were towed by 4J’s Towing. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to Lange’s report. He was assisted by Holzschuh and Cpl. Ty Decramer.

The crash was reported at 12:35 p.m.
