OWENSVILLE — Owensville Fire Department is hosting its annual fireworks event at Memorial Park in celebration of Independence Day, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday.

“We’re expecting a good turnout being the first fireworks display in the area,” Owensville Fire Chief Jeff Arnold told The Republican on Tuesday about the June 28 event.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with food sales at the fish stand at the park.

On the menu this year is fish, chicken strips, brats, hot dogs, fries, soda and water. Food sales will directly benefit the Owensville Fire Department for future purchases of equipment, funding their annual banquet, and other expenses.

At 5:30 p.m., the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will hold the flag raising ceremony, followed by activities sponsored by local organizations.

• The OFD is sponsoring a sanctioned pedal tractor pull at 6 p.m., for 4-10 year-olds.

• The Lions Club is sponsoring Bingo at 5 p.m. beneath the pavilion.

• The Knights of Columbus will hold turtle races at 6 p.m.  (turtles not provided).

• The VFW auxiliary is hosting a cake walk and bake sale at 5 p.m. by the concession stands.

Parking will be available in the lower and upper parking lots.

Those traveling in the area are encouraged to take alternate routes, if necessary, as the park road will be closed off for the event around the upper pavilion.

Winter Water Park will close at 3 p.m. and the golf course will close at 4 p.m. in preparation for the event.

Owensville Parks & Recreation Department (OPRD) is seeking volunteers to assist with cleaning up fireworks debris at the park on Saturday at 7 a.m.

To volunteer for clean-up, contact OPRD Director Angela Lairmore at 573-437-8231 or parkrec@cityofowensville.com.

The display will shoot from the Golf Course. Owensville Parks & Recreation Department (OPRD) is seeking volunteers at 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 29 to assist with the course clean-up.

The aftermath of fireworks scatter small pieces of debris that must be picked-up before the course’s equipment finds it.

“Clean-up should not take long if we have several hands aiding in the effort! Help from individuals and community groups would be greatly appreciated,” The Parks & Recreations team said in their request for assistance.

If interested in helping, please contact Angela at 573-437-8231 or parkrec@cityofowensville.com.

The Rosebud Community Park Association fireworks display will be held on June 29 at dusk. Events will begin around 5 p.m. with conession stands serving fish or beef sandwhiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, and homemade ice cream.

A Candy Cannon will go off around 7:30 p.m. Fireworks start at dark.
