Mayor says city is on track with budget projections

Posted

A  special meeting of the Board of Aldermen was held last Thursday, July 25, to approve the city’s mid-year financial report.

Mayor Angela Koepke noted, “Overall, we are sitting in good shape at 49.5 percent of our annual budget.”

Income for the city in the general revenue and police budget is running higher than anticipated. Sales tax collection mid year is at 60.5 percent of the estimated annual income. The city has already collected 79.2 percent of the expected annual payment from personal property/real estate taxes. It is customary for those tax collections to come in early in the year.

Certain budget line items have almost hit their expected limit for the year. City Administrator Nick Grube explained that replacing the water meters was one such example. The new meters have already been purchased but will take the rest of the year to install.

Park income at the midyear mark is at 50.2 percent of the annual estimate. Expenses there are at 34.9 percent.

Payroll information was not available at the time of the meeting. Grube explained that over the years, five different software budget programs had been opened. City Clerk Shelley Smythe is working to consolidate them into one program. She reported that she hopes to complete that work in the next two weeks.
