Brad Baker, above left, has been traveling to Union, Washington, Hermann and St. James for the last four years to play America’s latest sports craze, pickleball. With two new courts at Winter Park, pickleball fans can now spend less time driving and more time indulging their sport. The new courts replace the racquetball courts at Winter Park, located at 409 Red Oak Road, Owensville. The park was dedicated in the mid-1980’s after the late Milford and Velma (Gottenstroeter) Winter. Baker’s father, Dr. Paul Baker, was one of the individuals instrumental in the parks development. A pickleball court is the same size as a doubles badminton court and measures 20×44 feet. In pickleball, the same court is used for both singles and doubles play. The net height is 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches in the middle.  The courts are open from dawn to 10 p.m. daily. The Owensville Park Board held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new courts on Monday after their monthly meeting.
