Sylvester Joseph “Vess” Lock, 83, Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, at StoneBridge Senior Living-Villa Marie, Jefferson City.
He was born July 21, 1941, to the late Lawrence Matthew and Bernadine (Meyer) Lock in Jefferson City.
He was united in marriage to Helen Marie Steinman Aug. 1, 1964, in Argyle.
Vess was employed at the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, as a corrections officer until he retired after 20 years.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Bernadine; son, Mark Lock; siblings, Wilfred Lock, Jody Fisher, Viola Vivion, David Lock, Mary Ann Fitzpatrick and Alice Daniels.
Vess is survived by wife, Helen of their home in Jefferson City; daughters, Lisa Ann Lock of Jefferson City and Micelle Lynn “Shelle” Jacobs and husband Steve of Koeltztown; two grandchildren; and sister, Irene Schoenen of Jefferson City.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Aug. 12, in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Argyle, with Rev. Basil Tigga officiating and Deacon Michael Brooks assisting.
Interment was in the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Argyle.
Memorial contributions suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter in St. Louis.
Arrangments entrusted to Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
