Hermann officials prepare Friday bridge ceremony

HERMANN – City officials on Friday will celebrate the opening of the new bridge over Frene Creek on Highway 19 (Market Street).

The bridge, which is wider than the original 1930 version, is a pathway of connectivity from Interstate 70 to Interstate 44.

“With its new pedestrian walkway, it shows that our community is committed to fostering a safe environment for everyone,” said Tammy Bruckerhoff, Hermann’s director of tourism and economic development.

A ribbon-cutting celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Hermann Lumber Company parking lot where the community has been invited to attend.

The ceremony agenda will include speakers Mayor Bruce Cox; Preston Kremer, MoDOT Central District chief engineer; aand Rep. Bruce Sassmann, R-Bland of the 61st District.

Following the speakers, the new structure will close briefly for prayer and blessing of the bridge by Pastor Andy Wilson, Hermann Ministerial Alliance. The Ceremonial Champagne Sabrage will be provided by Stone Hill Winery; the ribbon cutting by the city’s partners; America the Beautiful conducted as a community sing-along.

Hermann Police Chief Marlon Walker will lead the Parade of Progress. Walkers and dogs on leashes are invited to stroll over the pedestrian pathway. Those wishing to participate in the parade should gather in the Hermann Lumber Company parking lot.

The River City Cruisers along with other vehicles will follow the pedestrians. Members of the Cruisers are to gather at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the former Casey’s.

Following the parade, everyone is invited to enjoy refreshments and camaraderie in the Hermann Lumber Company parking lot.
