Marietta Schaefer, 92, Loose Creek, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Heisinger Bluffs West in Jefferson City.

She was born May 24, 1932, to the late August and Olivia (Wilde) Stegeman in Folk.

She attended school in Folk.

Marietta was united in  marriage to Francis W. Schaefer Aug. 18, 1956, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Folk. 

She was a homemaker for most of her life.  Marietta worked at Tweedy Shoe Factory in Jefferson City until they closed and in 1965, she went to work for McGraw-Edison and later Smith Shop and Bench-Mark until retiring in 1980 to help her husband on the farm.

Marietta was known for putting in a large garden every year and canning many jars of vegetables and fruit.  In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, embroidery and crocheting. 

Marietta was preceded in death by husband of 63 years, Francis; parents, August and Olivia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Stegeman, Francis Stegeman and wife Mary, Gene Stegeman and wife Martha and Celsus Stegeman and wife Joan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Rustemeyer and husband Ferd, Norma Sandbothe and husband Charles and Lydia Luecke and husband Ray; brother-in-law, Donald Schaefer; and nephews, Kenny Luecke and Dennis Stegeman.

She is survived by sister, Margie Haslag and husband Conrad of Loose Creek; brother-in-law, Ed Schaefer and wife Anna Mae of St. Martins; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial as held Monday, Aug. 5, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Fr. Anthony Rinaldo officiating. Entombment was held at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum in Jefferson City.

Memorial contributions suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund in Loose Creek.
