Diamond Dutchgirls turn back Eldon, St. Clair

Ending September and opening October last week, Hannah Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team posted two wins in three games last week against Eldon, St. Clair and Rolla.

Finishing out the September portion of their season on the road last Monday at Eldon, Koppelmann’s Dutchgirls used a six-run top of the second inning to propel themselves to an 11-1 victory in five innings over the host Lady Mustangs.

Owensville’s aforementioned six-run inning started with a two-out walk to Trinity Rossi before Lainey Moss singled and Ali Daniels reached on a fielder’s choice.

Claire Oswalt got the Dutchgirls on the board with a RBI single before Hannah Keeney helped her own cause with a two-RBI double.

Bailee Dare then delivered another blow in the inning with a two-RBI triple scoring Oswalt and Keeney.

Cameron Ryerson then capped the six-run inning with a RBI single scoring Dare.

Moss and Daniels added RBI singles during Owensville’s four-run top of the fourth inning before a Danika Hinson RBI single scoring Dare in the top of the fifth inning eventually helped OHS defeat Eldon in five innings.

Continuing to swing a hot bat, Dare was a home run shy of the cycle ending up with two doubles and a triple among her four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Daniels, Ryerson, Hinson and Moss each also had multi-hit games for OHS with two against Eldon.

Ari Robson also had a hit and run scored for the victorious Dutchgirls against the Lady Mustangs.

Kabren Kelley and Shae Abernathy each drove in a run helping Owensville’s JV Dutchgirls edge Eldon 2-1 in four innings.

Opening the October portion of their season last Tuesday on the road at St. Clair, Owensville ended Four Rivers Conference (FRC) softball play with an 11-0 shutout of the Lady Bulldogs in five innings behind a seven-run top of the fourth inning.

Daniels led the Dutchgirls with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs against the Lady Bulldogs.

Bailee Dare and Keeney each also had two hits against St. Clair.

Ryerson also had a hit and three RBIs for the orange and black against the Lady Bulldogs.

Keeney earned the win pitching four innings of shutout softball scattering three hits and a walk to go with six strikeouts.

Hosting Rolla in their final home game of the season at OHS Field last Thursday, Owensville saw errors hurt them in a 6-0 loss to the visiting Lady Bulldogs in varsity action.

Hinson had a team-high two hits for the Dutchgirls against Rolla while Oswalt, Ryerson, Robson and Moss also had hits for OHS.

Falling 11-2 in the JV game against Rolla, Lily Raaf and Kelley each had a hit and a run scored for the JV Dutchgirls.

Owensville will end their regular season with road action tomorrow (Thursday) at Montgomery County and Monday along Interstate 70 in Wright City before opening play in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 3, District 5 Tournament at Blair Oaks against an opponent, time and day yet to be determined as of press time.
