OHS varsity track squads place second in annual FRC meet

HERMANN — Every point matters.

Matt Candrl’s Owensville Dutchgirl track team found this out the hard way Monday during the annual Four Rivers Conference (FRC) track meet at Hermann High School’s Bearcat Memorial Stadium.

Leading Pacific by 1.5 points entering the girls 4x400-meter relay, Owensville just need to finish ahead of Pacific to secure a FRC team title.

Placing second to the Lady Indians, Owensville (147.5) settled for second place in the team standings just behind Pacific’s 148 points.

“We learned the hard way that every point matters,” Candrl said. “We gave it everything we had across the board and Pacific just caught us in the end.”

Senior Emma Daniels showed the way with winning times of 12.84 in the varsity girls 100m dash, 26.28 in the girls 200m dash and 1:00.61 in the girls 400m dash. She also took third place in the long jump with a leap of 5.07m.

Junior Ilene Limberg posted a pair of second-place times in the girls 800m run (2:26.96) and the 1600m run (5:20.32).

Ruvia Nowack finished in a tie for second with Sullivan’s Breanna Mayberry clearing 2.60m in the varsity girls pole vault.

Nearly earning a clean sweep of the relay races, Owensville started the meet with a winning time of 10:26.68 in the girls 4x800m relay from the team of Brynn Wright, Abbie Gibson, Hannah Gehlert and Limberg.

Also capturing the girls 4x200m relay in 1:50.90 was the varsity Dutchgirl foursome of McKenzy Echols, Cameron Nowack, Ali Daniels and Emma-lee Wehmeyer.

Sprinting to FRC gold in the varsity girls 4x100m relay was the Dutchgirl quartet of Ali Daniels, Cameron Nowack, Echols and Wehmeyer in a time of 52.08.

Placing second in the aforementioned varsity girls 4x400m relay in a time of 4:18.10 was the OHS team of Ali Daniels, Limberg, Echols and Wright.

Wright also earned All-FRC honors in varsity girls 800m run with a third-place time of 2:28.80.

Gehlert’s best individual finish came in the girls 3200m run with a fourth-place time of 13:15.03.

Gibson’s highest finish was also in the girls 3200m run with a sixth-place time of 13:30.68.

Wehmeyer took fifth place in 16.91 during the varsity girls 100m hurdles followed in the top 10 by Dutchgirl teammates Elaina Lebish (9th, 19.85) and Cameron Ryerson (10th, 20.05).

Also leading three girls in the top 10 of the 300m hurdles, Wehmeyer placed seventh in 52.14 followed by Makenzi Carpenter (9th, 55.55) and Halle Engelbrecht (10th, 58.54).

Engelbrecht just missed All-FRC honors placing fourth in the girls high jump clearing 1.37m.

Arianna Baguio also placed fourth in the girls pole vault for Owensville clearing 2.45m.

Cameron Nowack (4th, 9.97m) and Ali Daniels (5th, 9.84m) rounded out the top five of the varsity girls triple jump for OHS.

Lainey Moss picked up two team points in the varsity girls shot put with a seventh-place throw of 8.86m followed by Rylee Dare (13th, 7.72m) and Brianna Beckerman (14th, 7.65m).

Dare (11th, 23.30m), Moss (14th, 22.25m) and Danika Hinson (18th, 18.88m) competed for OHS in the varsity girls javelin.

Lexis Manning led Owensville’s JV Dutchgirls with a fourth-place throw of 7.29m in the JV girls shot put.

Cylee Reed’s best finish for the JV Dutchgirls came in the high jump with a sixth-place leap of 1.40m.

Kelby Herbel picked up three team points for Owensville with a seventh-place time of 9:05.79 in the JV girls 3200m run.

Zynteria Sharp posted her best finish in the JV girls shot put with a 14th-place throw of 6.04m.

Also placing second in the team standings with 129.50 points, Owensville varsity boys finished behind Sullivan (149) who won their first FRC team title since the Richard Nixon administration in 1971.
