Scoring their first points at Union, Owensville Middle School (OMS) Dutchmen football looked to find the win column for the first time last Thursday night against St. James’ Tigers at Dutchmen Field.

Seeing their seventh-grade counterparts post a 14-6 win over St. James, Owensville’s eighth-grade Dutchmen looked to complete the sweep with a win over the visiting Tigers.

Against Union, Brayden Oldfather and Trace Lange scored touchdowns.

Racing out to a 30-0 lead after one quarter, Owensville more than doubled their point total during the second half of their 63-20 victory.

Jack Tesson scored OMS’ first touchdown at Dutchmen Field with a 5-yard TD run at the 6:34 mark of the first quarter before Peyton Pohlmann found Levi Losch for the two-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.

Pohlmann than scored from two yards out with 3:34 for the opening quarter.

Leading 14-0, Owensville struck again two minutes later when Losch posted a 34-yard rushing TD.

Tesson’s run for two points put OMS up 22-0 with 1:32 for the first quarter.

Nolan Jost capped the first-quarter scoring with a 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Bo Buddemeyer’s run for two points put the orange and black in front 30-0 after one quarter.

After St. James got on the board early in the second quarter, Owensville answered with a Pohlmann to Mason Turner 20-yard TD pass for a 36-8 lead after Tucker Crosby’s missed extra point at the 4:00 mark of the quarter.

Answering a kickoff return for a touchdown by St. James, Buddemeyer found the end zone on a 19-yard TD run with 1:41 until halftime.

Crosby’s kick made it 43-14 at that juncture before another Tiger touchdown made the halftime score 43-20 in Owensville’s favor.

Pohlmann added a 16-yard TD run with 4:27 for the third quarter before Buddemeyer added a rushing touchdown and an interception return for a score giving Owensville their final margin of victory.

Owensville returns to action tomorrow (Thursday) night at Dutchmen Field going for their second win over a Phelps County opponent host Rolla’s Bulldogs with a 5 p.m., kickoff for seventh-grade action.
